This is a totally unsolicited review of Mixer Effects. I wrote it exclusively for you. Trust me on this one. Mixer Effects has completely surpassed our expectations.

my mixer has a built in fx processor but i don't hear the effects until i play back my recording. Why?
I have a Behringer 2222FX mixer with built in multi-FX Processor. If i send a channel through the aux to the processor, i can Mixer Effects not hear the effects in my phones, (I can hear my clean voice but no reverb, echo etc.) The effect shows up during playback but it doesn't show up WHILE I'm recording or before i record. Because of this i have to record tons of little tests to get the fx levels just right. How do i save time and make it so that I can hear what the processor is doing BEFORE and or during recording so that i can make adjustments based on what's going on in real-time?

midi channels just play notes or drum hits for your virtual instruments, these are then played through audio channels just like normal audio channels.if you open your mixer with your midi channel solo’d, you’ll see the midi meter going up and you’ll also see the audio channel thats playing the audio, here you can muck around with EQs and FX like normal.you can also find them at the bottom of the project window if you click on the vst instruments tab under all the channels.

For a cheap mixing board (with DSP) and can act as a recording interface (via USB), i would go with this:http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alesis-MultiMix-8USB-Mixer-with-USB-and-DSP?sku=630166It’s about $150 and has effects built in. You’re not gonna recreate a convincing Abbey Road on this thing..but for spoken word, it will be more than adequate. Also-Purchase or create (they’re easy to build via a coathanger and pantyhose) a pop filter for that AKG to prevent from destroying it. It will also allow you to maintain a more usable recording level when you control plosives.

you can try audacity. it’s free and i used it before to do some cut and mix of sounds for school projects.

I started with the Pioneer DJM 800 before getting a chance to try the DJX700, but i’ve heard good comments about it, and for the price its worth every cent, still, i’d research on the DJM or the VMX 300. The beat counters are better than on cheaper mixers but not very good, the cross fader is smooth and so far reliable, the and the effects are usable, although they are somewhat limited, the delays/echoes only being really effective at certain fixed tempos. If you want to go pro, i think it’s better you invest in a more complete tool, but as i said, for a beginner is worth the money.

Well…. If you’re going to be paying for it, I suggest virtual dj. It has all the effects you could ever want, the thing is that you can only get it off the site. So you can get the virtual dj for scratching but you’d be very limited in the effects department. If you’re looking for a free software that you can download, fruity loops is incredible and what you should get. It’s like having your own studio. The only problem with fruity loops is that it’s not as easy to use as virtual dj and it’ll take you a while before you pick it up.Been djing for about 4 years now, i’m not pro or anything I just do it for fun, and I djed at a bunch of our school dances.

    FL Studio or audacity

Download.com Search DJ. I suggest the program called Virtual DJ. IT has turntables and effects. BUt its only a trial

I have owned that mixer for 3 years now and I know it pretty well. You cannot get the built in effects out of the direct outputs.Direct outputs are only used when you want to get the output sound from only ONE channel at a time. My first question would be…..why are you using the direct outputs anyway? The main outputs will give you the mix of all the outputs together plus effects. You can vary the amount of effects on any one channel by adjusting the EFX knob for that one channel.E-mail me if you have any other specific questions on that board. My e-mail is in my profile.

Pre ampFor amplify small signal in all frequencies (from mic)MixerFor mixing signalsyou can connect mic- pre-amp – mixer – computerhttp://theclickinfo.com/cse:sound_recording.electronics

  11. Daniel K says:

No – The Behringer USB mixer does not act as a control surface – it will not control the software. It only acts as an audio interface which sends it’s output to the computer via USB.A control surface actually controls the software – when you move a knob or slider on the control surface the software reacts to that – you will see a knob move on the computer screen. You should also check to make sure that mixer will work with Garage Band in the first place – I think Garage Band only works with limited audio interfaces (mbox?)

  12. Ghjjf says:

audacity is a good (and free) audio editing program however all the programs that i kno of that will let u add special effects are shareware so i forgot their names (i hate shareware) however if u check download.com u should find a lot of good programs there. (as well as the audacity program i mentioned)

  13. Ape Trax says:

Most of the effects built into low-cost mixers is not of very good quality. They work fine for live sound but not for studio recording.I would look for a firewire interface like this firebox:http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FireBox/Unless you need to record more than 2 channels at a time, this will work great for almost all small projects. You can just record a track or two at a time and mix your project “inside the box”. Meaning you record all your tracks to the computer and then you mix the tracks on the computer with multi-track software. Then you get to use the built-in plugins that come with your DAW and that are much higher quality than you will find on the Behringer mixer.

  14. alexwright593@btinternet.com says:

Hiya,Though not really my field, the simple answer is, if the computer you are connecting to has a pre-amplified sound card, there is a strong possbility of getting a required result.Try using the Line-In connection, to test this theory. remembering to set up the levels required. If the above fails, then you need to pre-amp the unit in question.Hope the above helps,Alex

  15. computerman says:

Yes it can. It does depend on having a good sound card. Check reviews by googling or woopsss errr YAHOOING “best sound card reviews” or something like that.My son-in-law used an older computer combined with his recording equipment and a great SoundBlaster card to create my daughter’s CD called Broken Clay and his CD called One Thing.I usually go to amazon and check out what people say about all the sound cards. Be wary of only a few comments because it could be the employees of the company. Read the negative comments and see if there are very few perhaps this one guy got a bad card. Every manufacturer accidentally creates some bad cards. This site seems to be a great one to read:http://www.engsoc.carleton.ca/~mdeabreu/music.htmlAnd herehttp://www3.sympatico.ca/idejonge/music.htmhttp://kellysmusic.ca/soundcards_modules.aspI just did a search for “best sound cards for music”More info at http://www.brokenclay.net or http://www.joyfulmourning.com

  18. Saul says:

The line out on your amp comes right out of the preamp, is what it sounds like, which means it doesn’t have the advantage of going through the speaker first…. besides actually pushing the sound, guitar speakers also act as filters, cutting out some frequencies and emphasizing others. The main way they do this is by acting as lowpass filters, ie, filtering out a lot of the high frequency noise caused during amplification. Some line outs are emulated, meaning they go through a cab simulator, meaning they get filtered before they get to your Tascam. Yours doesn’t, so you’ve got to figure out how to either make it sound like it’s going through a cabinet or stick to just mic’ing it.There are speaker simulators out there, and theoretically at least you can use EQ to at least vaguely approximate it, but it’ll sound better to just mic it. Some preamps and multifx can simulate a cab… so you could look into that too.Saul
