Could be power supply on vaio. Try it on battery only. If it stops then power supply or “dirty” power source which can be correct with a RF filter like Furman makes. Other sources could be cables, connections, bad sound card….

Couldn’t you move the mixer closer to the cams, or vice versa? I’m not sure what firewire’s maximum range is, but 30 feet seems like a fairly long distance. Check the user manuals for the mixer and cams.

The best sound that you can possible get you MUST have a computer based recording software. If you’re looking to raise your quality, a mixer isn’t a bad idea. You can grasp audio directly and master each track individually. It also helps give your audio a better sense of stereo.I wouldn’t go out and spend 3-5K on a mixer… For video production, a simple small 4-8 XLR preamped mixer should do you just fine as long as you have an interface (if the mixer itself doesn’t have one). This way you can just plug in your mics and record each track at the same time. I bought mine (8 XLR preamp, 16 1/4″ jacks) for a little over 200.

You can not record your mixes with that. You should look into getting a 24 bit interface and a DAW for your computer. This would be cheap and allow for quality recording.The mixer you mentioned does however have quite a bit of effects and a quality signal path. You may still choose to get it. If you get a DAW and an interface, you can have all the effects you want but being a DJ you will prolly prefer the hands on live action of having effects on your mixer.Its up to you but look into some cheap interfaces and DAW’s for recording.check out http://www.audioneeds.com for questions liek this
Matt – The MIDI interface is useful if you do a lot of complicated tasks with the mixer. The computer can control pretty much everything and you can set it up to do sequences of changes. If you are only going to use the mixer for basic mixing tasks, you don’t need it.
