Music producing machine?
I'm a beginning hip-hop producer looking for a production machine. i looked at mpc's and other akai models and i decided that the akai brand would probably be the best way to go. This is probably going to be a vague answer, but the best way is to get a sampler. You can sample anything from the tv, radio, internet, anything you can hear, it can hear too. Then you can load them up into another program like cool edit and tweak it. You can sample a few things with cool edit if you have a mic, you can even sample your own voice and tweak it so that it doesn’t even sound like a voice anymore, and use that as a sound for notes or what not. I have sampled things from many tv shows and radio, random sound effects like from star trek, movie lines, cartoons, you can even turn a fart into a musical note lol… the possibilities are endless.
I’ve never heard of the MPD one but I have a few mates who swear by the MPC. I believe they’re pretty much industry standard since the Emu Sp12’s phased out.Check out this Brothers Stoney – Tappin Buttons if you can find it anywhere for a bunch of instrumentals done mainly via the MPC.I just looked at them and it seems some are more portable on the go jobs and others are more solid like MPC 2500’s and 3000’s.There’s a fair variation in price too.
MPC’s are made by Akai and I would recommend one of those if you have the money for it (it will come with all the needed cords). You need a keyboard, and a PC would be best, usually an HP with a good amount of ram. Dont even mess with garage band. If you can afford it, get Pro Tools as well. You quite a few questions here. I’ll try and give a brief outline.If you are limited for space/budget, and you have an imac, your best bet is buy a decent midi/audio I/O box that you can use to plug instruments, mics and midi controllers into your computer. There are several goods ones of varying prices.Your next step is to buy a good recorder program that allows you to use VST plug ins (as good as Garageband is, it doesn’t use VST unless you buy a separate program called a wrapper).Next, buy a good midi keyboard. Don’t worry about it’s sounds, because you can get great results with VST instruments and effects. (many of which are free) There are even VST vocoders, samplers, sequencers and drum machines.As for microphones, I’d recommend a good condenser mic, but don’t be afraid to try out several and get advice from your local music store. Different mics have different advantages and disadvantages.Hope this helps.Btw, a vocoder uses your voice to modulate a sound source (usually a synthesizer). You can make a wide variety of sounds that are really cool, but they can be tricky to use and expect to spend a lot of time learning to use one properly.Best of luck!

You can download them specifically as Limewire,Frostwire,Ares – Files. Just type in “MPC”….Or you can just take videos and vixy.net them to audio and chop them up with your own software….You can get specialised packs on ebay…I’ve seen disks that are SPECIFICALLY pete rock drums…or Preme scratches. All AKAI products made in China by small manufactures ,use low Quality parts = low prices = low quality = unreliable.look for upper brand , PLEASE .
