I’m pretty sure that the reason no one else has responded to your question is because you do not say how you are recording exactly. If you have not experienced the problem of getting clean and distorted input at the same time before, then obviously you are doing something different. Applying distortion to a guitar is such a subjective thing anyway. Each band that you listen to has a little different sound then the next and no one at Yahoo is going to know exactly what sound you are looking to get. Even the bands you mention are not exact (that is do not identically match) in terms of the sound of their distortion. There are so many different distortion effects on the market and it’s difficult to know exactly which combination of effects are used to give any one band its unique distortion sound. Even when you know for sure that The Devil Wears Prada uses a Marshall JCM800 and a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier into a Mesa Boogie 4×12 Stereo Cabinet and that both heads slave out into a Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amp into a Mesa Boogie 4×12 Stereo Cabinet and they also apply an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer and a Boss SD-1 Overdrive pedal into the mix, which they do according to their MySpace page, that does not tell you what the recording engineer did to the sound after they recorded or whether or not an exciter was applied, or what they set the controls at on the effects or anything else. http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=33530026&blogId=297517399#ixzz12FT0t3GI – so, perhaps you are beginning to see that you do not even have that same equipment so, it’s going to be rather difficult to exactly match that sound. I use Pro Tools to record with and I can achieve a wide variety of distortion sounds using the various plug-ins I have to go with it in addition to my BOSS GT-10, ENGL preamp effects, and iGTR WAVE distortion. So, I’ve always been happy with the variety of sounds I am capable of achieving but, I’m a songwriter so, I’m not trying to match my sound to anyone else’s.Here’s what you need to do … you might not like this answer but, it is the solution to what you are doing … start from ground zero. Make sure you have all forms of distortion turned off (set to zero) and you are not recording distortion or applying distortion and just record a clean guitar sound as an experiment. Now apply small amounts of whatever effects your are using with your software to see what you can achieve. Understand that various amp models will give you different distortions and that Overdrive effects applied to various amp models will vary those distortions and that compression applied will also change it and just play with the software controls and tweak it until you find a distortion that you like. So the same thing again but this time by recording with distortion and or overdrive and compression applied. You might also experiment with adding a phaser to the distortion if yo have one. It’s going to take patience and time but you will eventually find a sound that you are happy with. It’s also true that after I have a sound that I’m happy with over my headphones, I can play it back through my JBL studio monitor and it sounds decidedly different that it did through the headphones. So, go figure.

I think it has been discontinued. I would wait because this probably means that something new might be coming out to replace it. They did come out with the new POD HD. That one has new modeling so I’m guessing they will update the Pod Farm Platinum to newer modeling.

No it’s not mould, your husband is right, it’s part of the pod. If you buy broad beans and look at the inside of the pod, there’s a really thick velvety layer of the same kind of fuzz.
