Hip Hop Producers Do you own an akai mpc?
Similar to thishttp://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may07/images/AkaiMPC500_l.jpgMeaning it has the drum pads, pre-recorded sounds, and can be used as a samplerI'm looking into buying an MPC but I've never messed with one. Akai Mpc I only know what I've seen from internet web site details and videos on youtube, so if you do have an Akai mpc, do you mind if I message you to ask a few questions about the machine and it's uses? I'd prefer to ask you personally through a message, because I'm not sure what questions I'll have after my first few questions..Some may change depending on your answers. Any help is appreciated!! ThanksI asked this in The music & Music players section & no one helped, so I was hoping this section could help me.

The only program that uses the keyboard is Fruityloops. I have used both Fruityloops and Reason…..I strongly suggest you get Reason! I have one of those m-audio midi controllers than resembles an Akai MPC, I suggest you get Reason 3.0 and get a similar midi controller. I used to own an Akai mpc 2500 and an Akai mpc 1000, I recently got rid of them both because I can do everything easily in Reason plus way more! Reason is not that hard to use, a lot of people are turned off to it at first, but once you learn it, it is extremely easy and fun to produce with!

Guitar center, music equipment stores. There are also good places online, one of the best is http://www.zzounds.com/

It depends. There are only really 4 mpc’s out right that you can buy as new. The 500,1000,2500, and 4000(discontinued but, can be found new) I know for sure that the 1000,2500,and 4000 comes with sounds. These include drum and bass sounds. You will def. want to buy sounds. The stock ones are not that great. Gotchanoddin.com would be a place to start.

Sorry I can’t answer your question directly. But I know people here can definitely help you out.http://recordingquestions.com

I would go and ask a professional at a DJ/Music store but really you want to get a pretty good software program. I don’t know much about using them but most of my rapper/producer friends who I respect use them and they have decent studio setups with monitor speakers and high end software programs.

I can’t give you a direct answer, as I am more of a synth user, but here is a good resource to try, which includes a forum: http://www.mpc-tutor.com/ I’d also recommend reading the user reviews at http://www.harmony-central.com. Scroll down to the Akai section and weigh the varied opinions; sometimes you can get a real eyeful!Hope that helps.

the mpc all the way.however you could easily get the banks for the mpc and play them on the midi kb.and it would be cheaper. if its for fun then you’d want the keyboard. but then there’s all the time of putting the sounds and mapping it all out into the keyboard.and that takes time. lots of it. if you want to get right in and make beats.try http://www.flstudio.com

  8. Ruslan says:

Check out hiphoptools.com, they are a company based out of Toronto and can provide you cheap shipping. Also, Moog Audio (moogaudio.ca) is selling their demo version for very cheap. Major websites such as http://www.guitarcenter.com & http://www.musiciansfriend.com ship to Canada, and you can get a good priced unit.
