The only program that uses the keyboard is Fruityloops. I have used both Fruityloops and Reason…..I strongly suggest you get Reason! I have one of those m-audio midi controllers than resembles an Akai MPC, I suggest you get Reason 3.0 and get a similar midi controller. I used to own an Akai mpc 2500 and an Akai mpc 1000, I recently got rid of them both because I can do everything easily in Reason plus way more! Reason is not that hard to use, a lot of people are turned off to it at first, but once you learn it, it is extremely easy and fun to produce with!

It depends. There are only really 4 mpc’s out right that you can buy as new. The 500,1000,2500, and 4000(discontinued but, can be found new) I know for sure that the 1000,2500,and 4000 comes with sounds. These include drum and bass sounds. You will def. want to buy sounds. I would go and ask a professional at a DJ/Music store but really you want to get a pretty good software program. I don’t know much about using them but most of my rapper/producer friends who I respect use them and they have decent studio setups with monitor speakers and high end software programs.
