Problems with XLR to stereo adapters?
I have two XLR to stereo adapters and they each have their own problems as follows:The first one just makes the audio Audio Xlr really quiet. It's a male XLR to male stereo.The second one records the audio at correct volume, however, a piece of plastic broke off of the right stereo ring and now it only records audio on the left channel.Does anybody know any way to fix either of these? Do you mean Canon ZR700 instead of XR700?The ZR700 does not have an external microphone jack so the AT831b cannot be used with it to record video. However, if run through an audio preamp and connected to the A/V jacks an external microphone can be used for voiceover during editing. Unfortunately, this is a fairly worthless feature for most people.WK

since the dvx100 only records 2 audio channels, having more mic inputs makes no sense. what you need is an audio mixer board to combine multi mic inputs and mix to 2 output tracks. unless you intend to carry a computer with your camera, it needs to not be a USB type, but an old fashioned battery operated analog type. Shure mic mixers is the industry standard, but there are many other options that are more economical.

But you can’t use an ADAPTER (a word used later in your question) on this mic to (assuming) a 1/4″ plug because this particular mic requires phantom power (which 1/4″ jacks don’t provide).——–(added later)I just saw your other question about using this mic through a 3-conductor mini plug adapter into a camcorder (I assumed wrong on what kind of adapter!). You have a few options, depending on the mixer board:Most boards have a headphone out, use this.Use an Aux Send: you could use an auxialry send. Each channel has knobs for Aux 1 and Aux 2. Assuming the mics are the usual 50K impedenceit should be OK. Two in parallel will be 25K but that’swithin tolerance of most devices. The biggest probwill be that there won’t be any way to adjust individualmic levels between the pairs you combine with the splitters, but you should be able to find combinations that work if you have similar audio signal levels andsimilar mics… otherwise using one mic with a higher output level for the weaker source might balance the pair out successfully.
That can be a tricky problem – the static that is.I solved a similar static problem with my USB interface and my laptop by running the laptop of the battery. The static was only there when the laptop was plugged into the adapter.You do not need an interface if you use a USB mic. You cannot connect a USB mic to an interface anyway. Interfaces connect to normal three pin XLR mics.The static may be reduced or eliminated by changing the settings in the software. A condensor mic requires a pre-amp with phantom power.Second answer is correct. The mic may require an XLR to XLR cable in order to transfer the phantom power from the pre-amp to the mic.
It will work fine – the worst thing that could happen is you might get a bit of interference on your mic lines but that is unlikely. DMX signal are often run on regular XLR mic cables. DMX is a low voltage control signal – it will not damage anything. My only caution would be to make sure no one mixes up the mic and lighting cables on the snake. If the mic line carries phantom power from the mixer and you plugged your DMX light into that by accident, it might damage the light.
