Can I Use Car Subwoofers in My Car and Home Using This Method?
Alright I know there have been different questions about this topic before, but mine is different. I am looking at purchasing 2 good 12" subwoofers for my truck, but I also want to be able to use them in my home (mostly for to get more bass with my music setup) since I know they won't be in my car all the time. I am a DJ and have a QSC RMX-2450 professional rack-mount amplifier Amplifier Rack that produces 500x2 in 8 ohms stereo, 750x2 in 4 ohms stereo, and 1200x2 in 2 ohms stereo. Can I use this amp in both my car and home to power these subwoofers? My plan is to buy another power cable (they are about 3ft and 10awg) for the amp since it can be disconnected from the amp and cut off the "plug" end and wire that straight into my car for use there and just leave that cable always connected (since it can be disconnected from the amp). Then I would leave the other power cable in my home where I plan to use these subs. I then plan to outfit my sub cabinet when I get it with "speakon" jacks so I can use my current cables to power the cabinet (the cables are 10' 12awg). Then when I don't feel like using this sub in my car I could move the subs and amp into my house and just plug them in, right? Please let me know if you guys think this would work...Thanks

i assume this is for an outdoor event rather than a house? do you need an amp/mixer or a power amp? i would say go Yamaha, its not on your list but they seem built ok and should have protection built in to help protect the speakers from clip if you do get a bit excited. for a power amp to work you need to have a mixer to mix all the of the sources into the one output and manage the volume by that, i assume you no all of that. have fun.

I wouldn’t want to use an amp I rely on for a business in a truck. Vibration and heat could kill it prematurely and as murphy’s law goes, it will die right before a gig. When I had a mobile DJ service, I always carried backup equipment, so if you do that, it’s less of an issue. Plus, how do you plan to power that beast in a truck? That’s going to need an expensive A/C power converter due to the amount of power that amp draws – what is it, probably 1800 watts of power that QSC draws from the electrical outlet when it’s cranked? The subs are ok to move in and out of the house/truck, but I’d definitely get a dedicated car audio amplifier to power them. That way you just have to disconnect the subs when you want to move them in the house. Also keep in mind, sub designs for home and car are different, so a sub that sounds good in the car may not sound good at home and visa versa.

sure man, paint it. i think it would look sick if you would paint it to blue metalick

Despite what Thinkenstein said, you will need a preamp for that amp, even though it has front gain (volume) controls, that amplifier does not have a built in preamplifier. It is not a home audio amplifier, it is a very low end PA amplifier. Technical Pro amps are even worse than Pyramid amps. If I was you I would return it or try selling it on eBay. The problem with Technical Pro amps is they rate them by their peak power not their true power output. The sad thing is the power rating they state on their site as being the true power is even false, The fans on these amps are also very loud, they can’t handle 4 ohms long term & have thermal issues. The Technical Pro SL1200 makes a buzz without any input at all.Technical Pro amps are consumer grade amps that are disguised to look the part of & passed off as pro grade amps. I guess you can say they are made on the outside to look Technically Pro on the outside but merely consumer grade on the inside sort of like having a sports car with all looks but no go.Now I know a new QSC, Crown, or Lab Gruppen amplifier may be more than you want to spend, so I suggest you keep an eye out on eBay & Craig’s List for a used QSC amplifier, a used Crown amplifier, or a used Lab Gruppen amplifier. It’s better to have a used Toyota than a new Kia.I recommend looking for a used QSC RMX 850 or QSC RMX 1450.edit:Read Thinkenstein’s update.”Your Bose system effectively functions as a preamp.”"You wont hear the fan if you are in one of the other zones.”"since you already have this one it won’t hurt to try it.”

Divide the shape into a rectangle and a triangle. The legs of the triangle will be 6.75 – 4.125 = 2.625 and the longer one will be 11.5. Use the pythagorean theorem a^2 + b^2 = c^2. (2.625)^2 + (11.5)^2 = (length of ramp)^2. Solving for this you will get that the ramp need to be 11.7957…..

Here you go bro… this is the easiest way to do it. There is another one so the pole mounts inside the speaker cabinet a bit also, but this one should do the trick, and its dirt cheap.Best of luck!

since no one posted an answer, try dex.com that is the local yellow pages out here. I am hopeful you can find a location. If I knew, I would say a name or two. but this one I have to yield to the yellow pages.sorry

theres nothing wrong with that.. my home stereo system is about there too !

Well the loudness is determined by your amp, not the cab. If you’ve got a 400W head, then you want a cab designed to handle at least 400W. It’s better to be on the safe side and get something that will handle more than that (perhaps 500W).You also need to make sure that the impedances match. Impedance is how much a circuit opposes an electrical signal. It is measured in Ohms, which are indicated by the Greek letter omega (Ω). If your amp is designed to put out 400W of power at 8Ω, and you’ve got a cab that takes 500W at 4Ω, then the amp will have to work harder and will likely get damaged. Most amplifiers have a knob or switch on the back to select the output impedance.I’d also recommend something larger than 10″ speakers… at least 12’s, but 15’s would be better. Larger cones are needed to reproduce the lower frequencies of a bass. A 10″ speaker is fine in a little combo amp because you’re looking for something small and portable, but if you’re going to have a big cab, why not have one that can actually produce some good, full, low tones?
